Operating System Patches Required for Some of Our Programs

Windows may need to be updated with Windows Update and latest Internet Explorer available for your Windows version.

Some Required Updates for Windows

If you are using old versions of our software on old operating systems:
  • DCOM 1.2 or better (comes with e.g. Internet Explorer 4).
  • comctl32.dll - see below.

The general rules are:
  • Install all recommended and critical updates for your your given operating system and version.
  • You can often use Windows Update to download new versions of Windows, Internet Explorer, .Net and more.
  • See also: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/default.aspx

Possible comctl32.dll Problems

Minimum requirement is version 4.70 (or 4.72) or newer. One common way to get updates for these are through Internet Explorer:
  • IE3 includes 4.70
  • IE4.01 includes 4.72

On Windows recent versions of our software will load and use version 6.x if available and themes are enabled / different than "classic". In those cases where these conditions are not met, version 5.x or 4.x will be loaded depending on the Windows version.

Starting from Windows XP the operating system includes both 5.x and 6.x versions of comctl32.dll in a side-by-side manner.

You can usually find version comctl32.dll 5.x in C:\Windows\System\ and various 5.x and 6.x in C:\Windows\WinSxS\

However, some users install software that modifies or replaces this file in a way that affects our software.

If you find specific combinations of 3rd party software that causes problems do please let us now.
