Parameters can be understood as extra commands sent to an application when it starts.
-
E.g. if you start a program from console you can typical write something like "program.exe -parameter" (excluding the "").
To prevent (e.g. in Windows) a parameter value that contains a space (e.g. if you are passing a directory path) from being broken up,
enclose it inside a couple of "".
-
You have to resort to the manual and/or help for the given application to see the parameters, if any, it accepts.

One cause for this behavior can be the program is trying to write/save a file
(e.g. located in the same directory as the program itself). Things to try are:
-
Give the program / user account (if you trust it) the necessary file write access rights to the given directory.
-
Try to install the program into the following path (this may vary depending on the operating system and language): "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\example-name-of-program".
-
Wait for a patch.
